I've always been a big fan of 3D Home Design Software Packages as they add an extra dimension to home design (pardon the pun!). With 3D house design software you can literally walk though the house that you designed. Most house design software packages now come with this feature.
The most important benefit of 3D house design software is that they allow your designs to be more realistic. Within the category of 3D there are a number of camera views that you can have. There are:
- Standard 3D View: Where you see each room and its objects in 3D view. Some home design packages allow you to walk through the rooms. These are the more advanced software packages. Other software packages allow you to choose a camera view in the room. That is, you choose a point in the room where you can see the rest of the room from. In this, you can't walk around the room.
- Cros Sectional/Doll House View: In this view, you look at your house design as if you had opened the front of a dolls house. You can see all of the floors and the objects in them.
- Elevation Views: You can see your house/rooms from different heights.
3D software packages also allow you to get a realistic view of how the interior will look once you have the furniture installed e.g. You can check out how your house will look with a new bookcase in the corner. 3D home design software even allows you to figure out how the sunlight will affect how much light you get in your rooms. Some software packages allow you to stand in your virtual house as the sun sets..
If you're serious about house design software then make sure that 3D is definitey one of the features. 3D house design software will allow you to step inside the house you built. It will give you the chance to walk around the house and spot any potential design issues. Remember that even though the software may be expensive, it would be more expensive in the long run to discover a design flaw when the house has been built.
